I played a demo of Yo-Kai watch last night because why the fuck not and I really don’t get the hate. it has a lot of elements of pokemon but it has enough going for it to not just be a pokemon rip-off. not everything with monsters you can collect and battle with is a pokemon rip-off lmao sorry militant pokemon fanboys

while I was extremely confused about the battle system and wasn’t a fan of most of the Yo-kai, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. it was oddly compelling and I got sucked into it pretty quickly. I loved how you found the Yo-kai, detecting them with a radar was way more fun than how you find pokemon, something I never really enjoyed (c’mon walking in a patch of grass/cave and hoping and praying the next one that shows up is the one you need is boring). the music and visuals were also really nice

i can get how it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re gonna dislike it just because it’s similar to pokemon then I hope to god you don’t like Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, ect

Yo-kai Watch is literally nothing like Pokemon aside from being in the same genre and both games being about kids.If that’s all it took to be a rip-off and we just had one of every original idea then Pokemon wouldn’t even exist because Shin Megami Tensei came up with that idea first. The extreme hat for Yo-kai Watch is just really stupid and pointless if you ask me.
