I was recently asked why it is that I feel that the Sister Series is not connected to the Onibi Series. So I decided to make a post stating my reasoning.
My belief will not be changing anytime soon, so please do not try and argue or disprove what it is that I am about to discuss.
The twins are named Hitori and Owari, right? I don’t quite remember, so I’ll leave it that way for now. Either way, though, these characters do not appear at all in the Onibi Series, not by mention or being visually shown. That’s a first clue right there.
Some argue that the songs are connected to the Onibi Series because of the video style. While the spinning umbrella seen multiple times is obviously the same umbrella pictured in The Fox’s Wedding, this was likely just used again because it looks amazing. And of course, sometimes there are two umbrellas seen with it in these three videos, which just addresses the idea of one becoming two and vice versa.
It is also argued that like in the onibi series, the camera moves quite frequently and dramatically. But most Masa videos have this feature, so it’s nothing remarkable.
Some claim that the link is in the “hai, hai, hai, asore” that is heard, but it’s likely that this is only included because the songs reference the same time period in terms of style.
I would, however, like to point out that at the beginning of Your Heart and I Becoming One (see image above), several Onibi can be seen floating around the boseki, or tombstone. This could be considered a link, but given all the evidence against the idea of a connection, it’s likely just a reference.
Thank you for reading. 🙂
