on that topic i hate chatrooms that turn typed emoticons into little picture emotes automatically and you can’t do anything about it, especially when the emotes look dreadful or do not convey the nuances of their typed versions
there is one time it was kinda hilarious though there was one chatroom i used to go to for a long time that did this, and while the emotes didn’t look too bad, we still attempted the standard trick to circumvent the problem that we’d used in previous rooms, by typing a smiley backward – as (: instead of 🙂 and it still turned that into the standard smiling emote, only upside down like this
we embraced it and it became known as the ‘passive aggression’ smiley
